Porsche 911 Spirit 70 debuts, reviving retro motorsports look
Porsche 911 Spirit 70 debuts, reviving the retro motorsports look with its exterior decals and safety stripes. The vehicle becomes the third model in the car manufacturer’s Heritage Design series. The pilot is the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition in 2020, drawing design influences from the 1950s and 1960s. The next is the 911 Sport Classic, a collector’s car that made its first appearance in 2022, evoking the vehicle look from the 1960s and early 1970s. This time, the Porsche 911 Spirit 70 looks back at the 1970s.
The three stripes in black silk gloss are an immediate nod to the motorsports style of the period. They run across the bonnet of the Porsche 911 Spirit 70, reminiscent of the safety stickers sports drivers applied to the bodies of their vehicles. They used them to make their vehicles easier to see in rearview mirrors during high-speed racing and driving. Then on the side of the car, the design team prints decorative graphics in Porsche lettering. Above it, the number 70 in black silk gloss stands, another reference to the car manufacturer’s own sporting tradition.
modern designs along with traditional references
Porsche ushers in its decades-long tradition in motorsports for the recent 911 Spirit 70. At the center of the front hood, the vehicle carries the car manufacturer’s crest, one that is quite identical to its historic 1963 insignia. The front wings bear the gold-colored badges ‘Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.’ Then, the Porsche Heritage badge sits on the grille of the boot lids. The latter’s design recalls the Porsche 356 badge. It’s a car awarded in the 1950s after it reached its 100,000-kilometer mark. Along with these traditional references, modern designs come through.
The first on the list is the color Olive Neo, especially created by the design team for the Porsche 911 Spirit 70. Its shade is a rich, deep green, contrasting the bronzite that layers with it. Then, a gray-gold color appears in the lower rear and front sections as well as the Sport Classic wheels in ‘Fuchs’ design. The soft top and the windscreen frame, which are in black, offer a color that offsets the ensemble, announcing the presence of the vehicle. Once the soft top of the Porsche 911 Spirit 70 folds down, the car visually exudes the body of a roadster and race-track vehicle, sealing the automobile’s motorsports homage for its gold-like exterior.
Pasha fabric pattern evokes waving checkered flags
Inside the Porsche 911 Spirit 70, the motorsports tradition continues, led by the Pasha fabric pattern. The design is similar to waving checkered flags, caught by the wind as the racing cars speed by. The design team captures the visual illusion. Around the seats, different-sized rectangles make up the fabric pattern, creating the look of movement, of a waving flag. For the model, the team combines a textile with flock yarns instead of the typical jacquard velour. The fabric allows for a sportier character, the personality that Porsche 911 Spirit 70 aims to tap into.
The Pasha fabric pattern extends to the center panels and door mirrors, spilling into the glove compartment as well. This visible connection with the Pasha fabric pattern seeps through the decorative inlays on the seat backrests and the trim on the dashboard, should the owner want it. As a standard, there’s a club leather trim in Basalt black with decorative stitching in Olive Neo around the seats. Onto the sports chairs, they can move in 18 directions, adjustable electrically. In front of them, the driver sees the 12.65-inch display with white pointers and scale lines in analog format. Their green digits revive the Porsche 356 style, completing the retro tribute of the car manufacturer.

Loft Dynamics secures funding to develop Boeing 737 VR simulators
Loft Dynamics secures funding to develop Boeing 737 VR simulatorsAlaska Airlines, through its corporate venture capital arm, has invested in Loft Dynamics — an industry leader in virtual flight training and the developer of the only FAA- and EASA-qualified virtual reality helicopter flight simulator. The investment will support development of the first hyper-realistic, full-motion Boeing 737 VR simulator, using extended reality technology and techniques.Traditional full-motion simulators have long been the gold standard for airline training, providing an essential and proven method for pilot instruction. However, their substantial footprint, high cost, and operational constraints limit scalability and accessibility. As airlines, operators, and regulators seek more flexible solutions, VR is emerging as a powerful and influential solution.Alaska is supporting Loft Dynamics in the development of a Boeing 737 full-motion VR flight simulator with the financial investment and the expertise of its flight operations training department. As part of this partnership — and...

novoMOF raises CHF 4.4 million to scale CO2-capture materialsGTT Strategic Ventures, the investment fund of the GTT group, has completed a CHF 4.4 million funding round in novoMOF, a specialist in advanced materials for CO2 capture. This investment was made alongside Shift4Good, Regenerative Ltd, new and existing institutional and private shareholders.Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from Paul Scherrer Institute PSI, novoMOF develops Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for a range of applications, including point-source CO2 capture. Its proprietary CO2-capture materials offer outstanding performance, scalability and are environmentally sustainable by design, with the potential to capture CO2 at costs well below €100 per ton of CO2.MOFs are a new class of highly porous materials with an exceptionally high surface area in compact volume. When precisely engineered, they can act as molecular cages, selectively capturing and separating target substances such as CO2, methane or other high-value gases. Thanks to their versatility, MOFs...

CLA electric car by mercedes-benz debuts in rome
CLA electric car by mercedes-benz debuts in rome Mercedes-Benz debuts the CLA electric car with a radiant ‘face’ made of animated LED stars and storage under the front trunk. Introduced at IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany, the car manufacturer brings the real-life model of the electric vehicle to Rome, Italy, for its official unveiling on March 13th, 2025. Here, designboom interviews Mercedes-Benz’s chief design officer, Gorden Wagener, who discusses the car’s design, including the face of the CLA vehicle. He compares it to an LED wall because the front of the car comes with a star panel in high-gloss black. Then here, 142 individually animated LED stars glow alongside the car manufacturer’s three-pointed star emblem in the middle. This is the first fully illuminated grille panel on a Mercedes-Benz production car, which bears an A-shape design marking the vehicle as electric. ‘You can pretty much do anything you like with these...

Nendo & AREP draw on natural flow of rivers for france's next-generation TGV train design
Nendo & AREP draw on natural flow of rivers for france's next-generation TGV train designJapanese studio nendo, together with AREP, unveils its river-inspired design for SNCF Voyageurs’ fifth-generation TGV train. Since it began operation in 1981, the train has redefined high-speed rail travel across France and beyond, and the latest iteration, co-developed with ALSTOM, builds on this legacy to reach speeds of 300 km/h while accommodating up to 1390 passengers in its most high-density configuration.nendo and AREP’s design concept, here rooted in minimalism and efficiency, draws from the natural flow of water to envision this double-decker vessel as an entity that moves smoothly across the landscape. Its external body features abstract semi-circles in white and gray over a warm gray base, subtly evoking the ripples and waves of flowing water. The use of dark horizontal lines helps integrate technical components like inspection ports and exhaust vents into the overall aesthetic,...
